What is TGED......?
TGED is a web-accessible database of information about the Tetrahymena
thermophila genome-wide gene expression funded by the Institute of Hydrobiolgy,
Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is based at the Institute of Hydrobiolgy,
Chinese Academy of Sciences and is headed by Dr. Wei Miao, the principal
investigator (PI) of the Laboratory of Protozoan Functional Genomics.
Recently, a microarray platform in Tetrahymena thermophila was
established (Microarray
analyses of gene expression during the Tetrahymena thermophila life cycle.
Miao W, Xiong J, Bowen J, Wang W, Liu Y, Braguinets O, Grigull J, Pearlman RE,
Orias E, Gorovsky MA. PLoS ONE. 2009, 4(2):e4429.). With the gene annotations at
the Tetrahymena Genome Database (TGD;
www.ciliate.org), TGED can be used to facilitate analyses of gene expression
data by current ciliate researchers, and to assist researchers from outside the
field who become interested in Tetrahymena. Currently, TGED provides
microarray data of T. thermophila during growth, starvation and
conjugation, performed by the Gorovsky lab at
University
of Rochester and the Miao Lab at the
Institute of Hydrobiolgy,
Chinese Academy of Sciences. You can search the expression profile of
any gene in T. thermophila and its co-expressed genes using gene ID.
In the future, TGED hopes to provide a collection of resources and hyperlinks
similar enabling in depth, high quality analyses of Tetrahymena gene
expression. TGED is intended to be a resource for all members of the scientific
research community interested in Tetrahymena and other ciliates. As
TGED is developed we would greatly appreciate input from the community so that
we can better tailor TGED to meet your needs and can incorporate all available
